Behind the Brand: Maretta Studio

The name ‘Maretta’ comes from a combination of mine and my moms middle names; Marie and Loretta. I named a project in college ‘The Maretta Park Hotel’ and it seemed to stick with one of my friends. I thought if it stuck with him, perhaps it would stick with other people!

If you met me now, you might think I have always been creative. However I did not start exploring the world of DIY until college, but mostly when I moved to Chicago in 2013. I had received a degree in Interior Design, but I was just a year out of college and not exactly able to afford to furnish my new Chicago apartment. This is how I decided to try and figure some things out for myself. Pinterest became my best friend.

There are countless other bloggers out there that have made posts on just about everything. I would look up something I wanted to try, and read everything I could find about how to execute that task. I learned how to reupholster my first chair this way. Doing this gave me a new sense of independence and confidence which allowed me to leave my secure 9 to 5 and step out on my own to create a business of custom sewing and upholstery for Interior Designers across the country. 

Since blogs have been my instructor over the last few years, I hope my little corner of the internet will pay it forward and help someone else learn a new craft or inspire them in some way.
